The school was founded by François Bartholoni in 1835 and is the oldest music education institution in Switzerland, and one of the oldest conservatories in Europe.
One of the main squares of Geneva, Place de Neuve, meaning New Place, is recgnized for it's fountain and statue of general Guillaume-Henri Dufour on the horse. Place de Neuve used to be execution place in the past, which was strongly fought against by Henri Dunaut and others, who eventually established Red Cross.
